M7779 Blooming summer

McCall’s M7779

Flowy, breezy, cute and casual – everything you want in a summer top right? McCall’s M7779 is exactly that for me. Lucky for me, I can wear it all year since we don’t have seasons in Barbados. It’s literally summer all year! The pattern called for a woven fabric but I couldn’t find any that spoke to me so I disobeyed and used a pique knit and I have zero regrets. It’s truly an awesome little top that I can throw on with jeans or shorts, anything really.

This was my first time wearing yellow in years. I love my blacks and grays because they help me fade into the background. Bright colours tend to draw more attention than I would like or maybe I’ve made that up in my subconscious mind. Anyway, I fell in love with the fabric in my local store and though I tried to talk myself out of it, I couldn’t leave it alone. It was just too gorgeous.

McCall’s M7779 Pattern Review

Pattern Description:

Very loose-fitting tops have shaped hemline, wrong side of fabric will show. B: Back flounce.

Pattern Sizing:

6-14. I made a 6.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes it did. I made view D with longer front and back.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

The instructions were insanely easy to follow. I didn’t really need them as this was a very easy make. I just kept them nearby as a guide.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

Love how easy it was to make. Love how flowy it is the way the top is cut. I thought the neckline would make me feel claustrophobic but it was fine. All the pattern pieces fit on 1 sheet… amen hallelujah!

Fabric Used:

The pattern called for a woven fabric but I am stubborn and like to do my own thing so I used a pique knit.  Went down one size to accommodate this change.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

None. Next time I may use the size 8 length straps though as that is my actual size for this top had I not used a knit fabric. The neckline felt just the tiniest too high.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

I would sew McCall’s M7779 again and probably in a knit again too. Would definitely recommend to others.

Conclusion:

Very cute flowy summer top. Comfortable and easy to wear with jeans, shorts, leggings you name it. It blows in the wind as you walk. I felt super duper confident and got compliments as well.

Since I made this top, I feel a little braver to use more colour in my me-made wardrobe. Are any of you guys afraid of colour too? Let me know in the comments!
